How sad that the world lost one of its outstanding poets this week when Adrienne Rich died at the age of 82. I was late to discover her poetry, but it had a strong impact on me when I did. “Diving Into the Wreck” especially spoke to me and still does with its haunting lines of “I came to see the damage that was done/ and the treasures that prevail” and finally, “carrying . . ./a book of myths/in which/our names do not appear.”
